Dinner!

These were hooked in Vinnis Nikkim Colours [midnight] and Elle Cotton On - Seriously Chunky in single crochet spirals. I smell a dinner party!

CREATING A FLAT CIRCLE:

Single Crochet [sc] : Start with 6 sc and increase 6 sc in each round so that the total stitch count in each round is a multiple of 6
Half Double Crochet [hdc] : With hdc it is a multiple of 8
Double Crochet [dc] : Multiple of 12

See Cara Medus for tips on how to crochet a perfect round circle without visible corners and seams.

Cheers! One day I will hook like the amazing At Swim-two-birds.  Head over and check out her work.

    1. Hi Maaike, welkom by my blog! Ek verstaan Hollands en geniet dit om Nederlanders te volg - especially since my mom's family are originally from the Netherlands! I also love all things Scandinavian and follow Swedish blogs as I am affiliated with a university in Sweden.

This blog is just over a year old. I started hooking after I completed two post grad degrees almost back to back and needed an outlet that had little to do with critical academic thinking and writing and lots with relaxing.

On the other hand,I also deeply explored visual and sensory ethnography [through especially photography but also music, art and craft as a method to examine the social circumstances of expat kids [TCK's] as well as trafficked women and children. Many kids in Asia learn to knit and hook from a very early age and are able to document their lives through the work they produce! There are links on the side bar to some of my academic work.

I love your blog too, thanks for popping in and hope the reply wasn't too long! XXX

    xx Maaike

  5. The placemats are gorgeous, love the spirals! And the yarn - the colours, the texture - is simply stunning.
BTW: I can relate to what you commented above, that you need a break, as it were, from your other work. I too find crocheting is perfect for that. I'll definitely check out your academic work, thanks for referring to those links.
    All best!
    PS.
How cosy we ended up next to eachother at Annemarie's Link Party. ;-)

  10. Hello! Just came across this and not from your part of the globe. So I am wondering what weight this yarn is and what size crochet hook you used. I love how chunky the single crochet one you made turned out.

    Thank you!
